DayFriend started as a response to that frustration. Not in a boardroom, and not with a corporate budget but from scratch, with a simple idea: finding trusted local support should be straightforward, transparent, and human.
A Platform Built From the Ground Up
DayFriend is founder-led and independent. There's no decade of legacy baggage, no investors to please just a determination to do care introductions properly, built with a dedicated freelance developer and a lot of late nights.
Because we built it from scratch, we were able to bake safety and transparency into the platform from day one, rather than bolting them on later. Secure payments, identity verification, and session tracking aren't add-ons they're the foundation.
We're also honest about being lean. Behind the scenes, a small human core is supported by AI assistants that help us stay responsive including Rachel, our AI phone assistant, who'll take your details and make sure a real person follows up. It's how a brand-new, independent platform can offer the responsiveness of a much larger operation. But make no mistake about where the humanity lives: the real heart of DayFriend is the verified companions in your local community — real people, ready to help.
Launching in the North West
We're starting close to home, across the North West of England, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Warrington, Merseyside and the surrounding areas. Rather than spreading thin across the whole country, we're focused on building a genuinely local network of trusted companions where families can find support near them.
What Makes Us Different
Plenty of platforms compete on the loudest marketing. We'd rather compete on being the most trusted. That means a few clear promises:
- No hidden fees. We're an introductory marketplace, not an employer. You pay the companion's rate, plus a clear 15% booking fee. That's it no subscriptions, no surprises.
- Companions keep 100% of their rate. Fair pay attracts dedicated, reliable people who care about doing a good job.
- Support that keeps you independent. We're not here to manage your life. We're here to help with the things that drain your energy, so you can focus on what matters.
How We Handle Safety
The biggest question anyone has before booking is simple: who is this person coming into my home? It deserves a rigorous answer, so we use a three-stream verification process, matched to the level of the service.
- Green Stream — everyday support: For services like social companionship, domestic help, pet care and admin support, every companion passes a biometric identity check via Stripe Identity before they go live. This confirms the person you booked is exactly who they say they are.
- Orange Stream — care roles: For senior care, personal care, travel assist and live-in support, the bar is higher. Companions must hold an Enhanced DBS certificate with an Adults' Barred List check, registered on the DBS Update Service and each one is manually reviewed by our team before their profile goes live.
- Declared insurance, experience and qualifications: At sign-up, every companion in both streams must declare they hold the appropriate insurance, experience and qualifications for the services they offer. Companions are responsible for the accuracy of their declarations, and clients should review each profile before booking.
Secure sessions, start to finish
On top of verification, every session uses a unique QR and PIN system a digital handshake that confirms the right person has arrived and releases payment securely from escrow only after the session has taken place. It protects both the client and the companion.

We think being clear about our boundaries is part of earning trust:
- We're a marketplace, not a care provider. We introduce you to independent, self-employed companions.
- We're not an employer. Your companion works for themselves which is exactly why they're so invested in doing a great job.
- We don't provide medical care or advice. Our companions are there for support, errands and companionship — not as medical professionals. For clinical needs, please speak to appropriate healthcare providers.
