7,640 Impressions, 15 Companions: Why DayFriend's High Standards Are Worth It

When you are looking for someone to enter your home: or the home of a loved one: you aren’t just looking for a "service provider." You are looking for peace of mind. You are looking for a person you can trust with your keys, your routine, and your safety.
At DayFriend, we understand that trust isn't something that can be bought; it must be built. Recently, we ran a recruitment campaign on Indeed to find new companions for our platform. The numbers from that campaign tell a story that we are incredibly proud of: even if, at first glance, they look surprising.
The Campaign by the Numbers:
- 7,640 people saw the advertisement.
- 840 people clicked to learn more.
- 97 people started the application process.
- 15 people successfully became verified companions (13 Green, 2 Orange).
That is an 85% drop-off rate from application to verification. In many industries, that would be seen as a failure. At DayFriend, we see it as our greatest success. We would rather have 15 exceptional, verified companions than 100 unverified ones.
Here is why our high standards are a feature, not a bug, and how they protect both our clients and our companions.
The "Natural Filter": Why Quality Over Quantity Matters
Most marketplaces focus on "scale": getting as many people onto the platform as possible. We take the opposite approach. We believe that by creating a rigorous entry process, we naturally attract individuals who are serious, professional, and committed to providing high-quality support.
When someone sees that DayFriend requires biometric ID checks and Enhanced DBS certificates, it acts as an immediate filter. Those who are looking for a "quick buck" or who cannot meet our safety requirements simply don't apply. This ensures that the 15 people who made it through are truly the "cream of the crop."
Why the Numbers Are Local First, Not Small Thinking
It is important to give these figures the right context. DayFriend's ambition is to be a nationwide UK platform, connecting clients with verified companions and carers across the country. That has always been the direction of travel.
At the same time, we have taken a build locally before scaling nationally approach. We started in the North West first because our founder is based there, which makes it easier to stay close to the early community, learn quickly, and make sure the platform works well in real-world conditions before expanding further.
That means our current companion numbers are not a cap on our ambition. They reflect a deliberate decision to grow carefully, prove the model locally, and maintain high standards as we expand.
For clients, that means a marketplace that is being built with real oversight, not rushed growth. For companions, it means joining a platform that is laying the groundwork for long-term national reach, while keeping verification and trust at the centre from day one.
Our Three-Layer Verification System
We don't just ask for a CV and a smile. Our verification system is a robust, multi-layered shield designed to ensure that every session started on our platform is safe.

1. Stripe Identity Biometric Verification (The Green Stream)
Every single companion on our platform, regardless of their role, must pass through our Green Stream verification. We partner with Stripe Identity to perform biometric ID checks.
- How it works: Applicants must provide official government ID (like a passport or driving license). Stripe’s AI then compares the ID photo with a real-time "selfie" to ensure the person is who they say they are.
- What this solves: This eliminates identity fraud and ensures that the person who shows up at your door matches the profile you booked.
2. Enhanced DBS with Adults' Barred List (The Orange Stream)
For services involving more sensitive support: such as Senior Care, Personal Care, or Travel Assistance: companions must enter our Orange Stream.
- The Standard: We require an Enhanced DBS certificate that includes a check against the Adults' Barred List.
- Manual Review: Unlike other platforms that might use automated "scans," every single Enhanced DBS certificate is manually reviewed by a DayFriend administrator.
- Transparency: If a companion’s DBS is not up to date or doesn't meet our criteria, they simply cannot offer care-related services on the platform.
3. Community-Based Trust Scoring
Safety doesn't end once a companion is verified. It is an ongoing process. Our third layer is the Community Trust Score.
- Reviews & Ratings: After every session, clients provide feedback. This builds a transparent history of the companion's performance.
- QR and PIN Verification: Every session starts with a unique QR code or PIN. This ensures the right person has arrived and allows the platform to track the start and end of the session, releasing payment from escrow only when the job is done.
Why This Matters for Clients: Staying in Control
For families looking for domestic support or pet care, the biggest hurdle is the fear of the unknown. By being transparent about our "85% drop-off rate," we are showing you exactly how much work we do behind the scenes so you don't have to.
You are in control because:
- You can see exactly which "Stream" a companion belongs to (Green or Orange).
- You know their identity has been biometrically verified.
- You pay into a secure escrow system: no cash changes hands, and you only pay for the time worked.
Why This Matters for Companions: A Professional Marketplace
If you are a professional carer or a dedicated companion, you don't want to be on a platform that lets "just anyone" in. High standards protect your reputation, too.
By joining DayFriend, you are part of an elite group of 15 (out of thousands!) who have proven their reliability. This allows you to:
- Keep 100% of your rate: We don't take a commission from you; we charge a 15% booking fee to the client to cover our rigorous vetting and platform costs.
- Set your own hours: You are an independent, self-employed professional.
- Work with confidence: The same security systems that protect clients also protect you, ensuring you are paid fairly and on time for every session.

A Proactive Choice for Safety
We could have 100 companions today if we lowered our standards. We could ignore the "Adults' Barred List" check or skip the biometric verification to make the app grow faster. But we won't.
Our goal at DayFriend is to provide a secure marketplace where the hard work of vetting is already done. When you see a companion on our map, you are seeing someone who has passed through a gauntlet of checks and come out the other side.
Next Steps for You:
- If you are looking for support: Search by postcode to see verified companions in your area.
- If you want to become a companion: Understand that our process is tough because our mission is important. Start your application here.

We don't apologize for our numbers. We celebrate them. 15 verified companions means 15 people you can truly rely on. And at the end of the day, that’s the only number that matters.
